Artificial Touch

Creating Feeling at your Fingertips

The objective of this design project was to construct a circuit to simulate a "fingertip" by receiving a force input and translating the stimulus into the feeling of touch through vibration. Complex circuit analysis using OrCAD was used to optimize the sensitivity of the design while minimizing current flow and cost.

This project opened my eyes to the world of medical devices. It was so much fun being able to take a pile of circuit components and correctly place them to emulate the sensation of touch, a luxury that I have always taken for granted. I gained invaluable experience with circuit drawing software as well as soldering techniques while compiling the components on the breadboard. Though complex and at some points frustrating, this is my proudest accomplishment thus far.
